Elena Dementieva, in Miami on March 24, was awarded as the fans' favorite player of 2009. Elena retired at season's end; she had won 16 singles titles in 32 finals.
Ana Ivanovic was also in dirdl for the Linz player party on October 10; Ana won her 2nd Linz title a few days later.
