• 33-year-old Ai Sugiyama, met the press in Belgrade prior to Fed Cup play on February 4, 2009. Former singles #8 (6 titles) and doubles #1 (38 titles) Ai retired after this year's Pan Pacific Open. Ai played in 63 Grand Slam tourney singles main draws in her career, and in every Grand Slam singles main draw from Wimbledon in 1994 through the 2009 US Open, 62 consecutive, an all-time record.
