On Sunday in Prague, Czech Republic, in the final of the ECM Prague Open, last week's champion in Budapest, 21-year-old 7th-seeded #49 (career high: #13) Agnes Szavay of Hungary (res: Wolkersdorf, Austria), defeated 24-year-old 8th-seeded #54 (career-high: #52) Barbora Zahlavova Strycova from Pilzen, Czech Republic, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 (Agnes is shown with the glassware after the match).
Agnes's prize is $37,000; Barbora's is $19,000. Agnes and Barbora had never before met on the field of combat.

Agnes said: "I was very tired, mainly in the second set but also in the third...It's very nice to have a second title in a row. I've been working very hard and this is the reward." WTA story

Barbora said: "All week I was playing very good tennis... In the third set I thought Agnes would be tired and it would be simple for me, but that wasn't the case. Congratulations to her today.."

Agnes is now 5-2 in WTA singles finals; she won last week for the second year in a row at her home tourney in Budapest, her other titles came in 2007, in Palermo and Beijing. Agnes is 27-14 in singles matches this year, and has won her last 10 matches in a row, the longest winning streak of her career.
Barbora was playing in her first WTA singles final; she has won 8 WTA doubles titles (3 this year), 8 ITF singles titles, and 8 ITF doubles titles. Barbora has a 21-19 singles match record for 2010.

Later on Sunday, in Palermo, Italy, in the final of the Internazionali Femminili Snai Open, 24-year-old 5th-seeded #38 (career high: #18) Kaia Kanepi from Haapsalu, Estonia, won her first WTA singles title by defeating the 2009 Palermo champ, 28-year-old top-seeded #12 (Italian #1) Flavia Pennetta of Italy (residence: Verbier, Switzerland), 6-4, 6-3 (Kaia is shown holding the hardware after the match).

    Kaia's prize is $37,000; Flavia's is $19,000.

Kaia said: "I'm very happy to win my first career title. This is the best moment of my career. After doing well at Wimbledon, now I've confirmed I'm playing really well. Flavia was playing well, but today I was more aggressive in the most important moments of the match." WTA story

Kaia and Flavia are now tied at 3-3 in career matches. Kaia also won the last time they met, on a Deco-Turf hardcourt in the 1st round of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, 6-2, 7-6(6).

2010 Wimbledon quarterfinalist Kaia is now 1-2 in WTA singles finals; she reached the Japan Open final in 2008, and the Hasselt final in 2006. She has won 8 ITF singles titles (2 this year), and 2 ITF doubles titles. Including ITF play, Kaia has a 40-13 singles match record for the season.

2010 Marbella champion Flavia is now 9-11 in WTA singles finals; she won in Los Angeles as well as Palermo last year. Flavia has a 35-15 singles match record this year.
