  Katowice 2014

On Sunday in Poland, in the final of the BNP Paribas Katowice Open, the 2014 finalist at Dubai (and 2013 champ at Strasbourg), 24 year old 4th seeded #23 (career high: #11) Alizé Cornet from Nice, France, defeated 20 year old #67 (career high: #67) Camila Giorgi of Italy (residence: France), 7-6(3), 5-7, 7-5 (Alize is shown holding the hardware after the match).

    Alize's prize is $43,000; Camila's prize is $21,400.

Alize said: "What a match. It was definitely a huge fight, which is what I expected, and I had to save a match point to win the title, so it feels very special. I gave everything I had. I'm so happy I could win here at this beautiful tournament in Katowice." WTA story

Alize and Camila had met only once before, in January of this year on a Plexicushion hardcourt in the 2nd round of the Australian Open, when Alize defeated Camila 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

Alize is now 4-4 in WTA singles finals, and has a 18-8 singles match record this season.

Camila was playing in her first WTA singles final. She has a 13-6 singles match record for the year.
