On Sunday at Båstad, Sweden, in the final of the Collector Swedish Open, the highest ranked player remaining in the tourney, the 2012 champion at Hobart, Tasmania, 24 year old #62 (career high: #23) Mona Barthel from Neumunster, Germany, defeated the 2011 champion at Guangzhou, 30 year old #80 (career high: #37) Chanelle Scheepers from Harrismith, South Africa, 6-3, 7-6(3) (Mona is shown holding the hardware after the match).

    Mona's prize is $43,000; Chanelle's prize is $21,400.

Mona said: "Amazing week for me. I cannot believe I won the title... In some matches I was behind and I was just fighting for every point, and I'm so happy that everything worked out." video

Mona and Chanelle are now tied at 2-2 in career matches.. Their previous meeting was last year on a Plexicushion hardcourt in the 2nd round at Hobart, when Mona defeated Chanelle 7-6(3), 7-5.

Mona is now 3-1 in WTA singles finals, and has a 25-20 singles match record in 2014.

Chanelle is now 1-1 in WTA singles finals, and has a 19-17 singles match record this season.

Meanwhile in Turkey, in the final of the Istanbul Cup, the 2013 champ at Luxembourg, 24 year old top seeded #15 (and former #1) Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark (residence: Monte Carlo, Monaco), defeated the 2013 Katowice and Palermo champion (and last week's finalist at Bucharest), 31 year old 2nd seeded #24 (career high: #13) Roberta Vinci from Taranto, Italy, 6-1, 6-1 (Caroline is also shown holding the hardware after the match).

    Caroline's prize is $43,000; Roberta's prize is $21,400.

Caroline said: "I'm happy to have won my 22nd WTA title. It's a great feeling. I'm happy how the final went today. I served well and pushed [Roberta] around the court, and I really dictated the match... I've had a good week and am feeling good on hardcourts, which is great moving forward" WTA story

Roberta said: "I tried to play aggressively like always but made a lot of mistakes. It's tough to play like that against Caroline because she puts everything back in the court, and it was tough for me to stay in the rallies today. But I'm happy with my week and Caroline just played much better than me."

Caroline and Roberta are now tied at 2-2 in career matches. Their previous meeting was earlier this year on red clay in the 2nd round at Madrid, when Roberta defeated Caroline 6-3, 6-3.

Caroline is now 22-13 in WTA singles finals, and has a 26-11 singles match record in 2014.

Roberta is now 9-3 in WTA singles finals, and has a 23-17 singles match record for the year.

The Collector Swedish Open (formerly the Nordic Light Open), once held at Stockholm's 1912 Olympic Stadium, was moved to Båstad in 2009. Båstad has been the site of the ATP Swedish Open since it began in 1948; the women also played there until 1990. Båstad Tennis Stadium is a few hundred yards from the beach, close to Pepe's Bodega, a local restaurant and nightclub. The stadium was rebuilt in 2002 to accommodate the Hotel Skansen underneath the seaside bleachers.
