  Seoul and Tashkent 2010:

On Sunday in Seoul, Korea, in the final of the Hansol Korea Open, this year's champ in Kuala Lumpur, 20-year-old 5th-seeded #29 (career high: #22) Alisa Kleybanova from Moscow, Russia, defeated this year's finalist in Copenhagen, 28-year-old unseeded #39 (career-high: #27) Klara (Koukalova) Zakopalova from Prague, Czech Republic, 6-1, 6-3 (Alisa is shown hoisting the ceramicware after the match).

Alisa's prize is $37,000; Klara's is $19,000. Alisa and Klara had met only once before, on carpet in the qualifying draw of the Paris Indoor tourney in 2008, when Klara won, 6-2, 6-4.

Alisa said: "Day by day, match by match, I was feeling better about my game; towards the end of the tournament I was fighting to win the title. I'm really happy that I made it in the end." WTA story

Klara said: "Alisa was playing very well today. I was fighting and tried my best, but it was not enough against her. The Korean fans were supporting me so much all week though, and I have to thank them."

Alisa is now 2-0 in WTA singles finals; she has won 10 ITF singles titles, and 3 WTA & 12 ITF doubles titles. Alisa has a 28-20 singles match record in 2010.
Klara is now 2-9 in WTA singles finals; she won her titles in 2005 at 's-Hertogenbosch and Portoroz. This has been her best season since then (35-22 so far), including wins over former #1 Dinara Safina (twice), Flavia Pennetta, Na Li, and Aravane Rezai.

On Saturday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in the final of the Tashkent Open, last week's finalist in Guangzhou, 22-year-old #103 (last week, #82 this week, career high #59) Alla Kudryavtseva from Moscow, Russia, won her first WTA singles title by defeating this year's finalist in Istanbul, 24-year-old 4th-seeded #72 (career-high: #22) Elena Vesnina from Sochi, Russia, 6-4, 6-4 (Alla is shown hoisting the tableware after the match).

Alla's prize is $37,000; Elena's is $19,000. Alla and Elena had met only once before, on red clay in the qualifying draw in Rome in 2008, when Elena won, 6-3, 6-1.

Alla said: "I was nervous today. I didn't expect to win. It was a high pressure situation. My serve helped me more than anything else. I got it in big and it helped a lot. The score line made it look like an easy final, but it wasn't." WTA story

Elena said: "I didn't play as well as I did the whole week but I congratulate Alla on winning her first title. Alla played amazing tennis today."

Alla is now 1-1 in WTA singles finals; she reached her first final last week in Guangzhou, where she lost to Jarmila Groth. She has won one ITF singles title and 2 WTA doubles titles. Alla is 31-24 in singles this season, winning 9 of her last 10 matches.
Elena is now 0-4 in WTA singles finals; she also reached the final this year in Istanbul, and last year at Auckland and New Haven. Elena has won 3 WTA doubles titles, 2 ITF singles titles, and 6 ITF doubles titles. Elena has a 22-19 singles match record in 2010.
