In the final of the Acura Classic on Sunday, Justine Henin-Hardenne of Belgium defeated her compatriot Kim Clijsters for the first time ever on a hard court in WTA play, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 (photos shown).
It was also Justine's first ever hard court title in the US, and the first time in seven years she has played a tourney without her coach, Carlos Rodriguez, in attendance.
Justine said: "I’m very happy right now. It’s been an amazing week. I’m so happy to win the title here on hard courts, it means a lot of things for me. I’m very proud of what I did this week."
About playing without her coach present, Justine said: "It’s amazing. I’m very surprised. I know now that I can do it. I didn’t know what to expect coming here alone without Carlos. I really enjoyed my week here. It was my first time here. People are so nice here."
Kim said: "I think I started off really well. I just ran out of gas a little bit in the second and third."

After the match, Kim refueled and returned an hour later to win her 10th WTA doubles title, with her partner Ai Sugiyama. They defeated Lindsay Davenport & Lisa Raymond 6-4, 7-5.

Kim still leads Justine 8-5 in career matches (another source says 8-7, possibly including non-WTA matches?), and Kim is ahead 6-1 on hardcourts. 20-year-old Kim is now 15-12 in WTA singles finals; 21-year-old Justine is 11-8.

In the final of the Idea Prokom Open on Saturday in Sopot, Poland, # 26 s3 Anna Pistolesi of Israel (the former Anna Smashnova from Minsk, Belarus, who married her Italian coach last year) defeated # 76 Klara Koukalova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-0. Anna, who won $50,000 in Poland, never saw a final she didn't like, she is now 7-0 in WTA singles finals, winning 4 of those last year. Klara is now 0-3 in WTA singles finals.
Anna said: "Klara played some good points, but I controlled the match from the very first point. I did enough to win. It's never easy in any final. Maybe Klara suffered more than me from the tension. The final was probably the easiest of my victories so far."

The Idea Prokom Open website is in Polish. You can get free online translation of Polish words or phrases here. Good luck.
The tourney Photo Gallery (this link is for Monday photos, you have to go to "Galeria" in the menu at the top right of the page to get other pages has some good oncourt photos, but there are no captions at all, and the photos show up about a day late.
Sopot is not far from Gdansk, on the Baltic coast. Here is a map of the area.

San Diego, QFs, Friday, 11:30am:
#2 s2 Kim Clijsters BEL d #30 Lisa Raymond USA 6-2, 6-2

Kim said: "I have played really well. The first two matches my opponents weren't at that high of a level but tonight I really felt like I had to raise my level and I did. I moved really well and when I had the chance to step in one to two meters inside the baseline, I did."

#3 s3 Justine Henin-Hardenne BEL d #24 Nadia Petrova RUS 6-0, 6-2

Justine said: "I played solid and she had problems starting off and that gave me a lot of confidence. I didn't make many mistakes, I returned well and played good defense. I was so quick and moved really well... Mentally, I know I have to work hard and be aggressive on hard courts. My serve is a big part of it. When I serve like I did today, it gives me a lot of confidence and easy points."

#5 s4 Lindsay Davenport USA d #8 s6 Chanda Rubin USA 6-3, 6-3

#3 s3 Justine Henin-Hardenne BEL d #29 Svetlana Kuznetsova RUS 6-1, 6-3

Justine said: "I knew I had to be aggressive because she is hitting the ball very hard and she's an aggressive player, so I knew if I wanted to win this match and be ready for tomorrow, I had to play an aggressive play."
