    On Sunday at Moscow, in the final of the Kremlin Cup,, a local resident, the 2014 Paris indoor champion, 23 year old 6th seeded #29 (career high: #13) Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia, defeated the 2012 Tashkent champion, 24 year old #61 (career high #38) Irina-Camelia Begu from Bucharest, Romania, 6-5, 5-7, 6-1 (Anastasia is shown holding the hardware after the match).

    Anastasia's prize is $120,000; Irina's prize is $64,000.

    Anastasia and Irina had met only once before, in 2013 on a Deco-Turf hardcourt in the quarterfinals at Seoul, when Anastasia defeated Irina 6-2, 6-2.

    Anastasia is now 7-3 in WTA singles finals. She has a 26-20 singles match record in 2014.

    Irina is now 1-3 in WTA singles finals. Her singles match record this year is 50-21.

    On Saturday at Luxembourg, in the final of the BNP Paribas Open, the 2012 Roland Garros juniors champion, 20 year old #58 (career high: #43) Annika Beck from Giessen, Germany, won her first WTA singles title by defeating the 2011 champ at Quebec City, 28 year old 4th seeded #28 (career high: #28) Barbora Zahlavova Strycova from Pilzen, Czech Republic, 6-2, 6-1 (Annika is shown holding the hardware after the match).

    Annika's prize is $43,000; Barbora's prize is $21,400. Annika said: "I just tried to stay focused on myself and kept fighting, because Barbora was fighting all the time. She's a really good player with an aggressive game. She likes coming to the net a lot, so I had to watch out for that throughout the match. But I got a good start and managed to keep going. It was a close final with a lot of close games, and I'm happy it turned out for me." WTA story

    Barbora and Annika had met only once before, in 2012 on the same indoor hardcourts in the 1st round at Luxembourg, when Annika defeated Barbora 5-7, 7-6(2), 6-2.

    Annika was playing in her first WTA singles final. She has a 32-28 singles match record this year.

    Barbora is now 1-4 in WTA singles finals. Her singles match record this season is 37-27.

    At the Kremlin Cup in 2011, Vitalia and Elena Vesnina were leading Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova 6-4, 4-2 in the doubles semifinals when Vitalia badly injured her right knee. Vitalia had knee surgery, and did not return to play for many months. After she resumed her career, progress was slow until now.
    Today's victory was Vitalia's first win over a top 50 player, and placed her in her first WTA singles quarterfinal.
