On Sunday in Kuala Lumpur, in the final of the BMW Malaysian Open, 26 year old qualifier #124 (career high: #78) Su-Wei Hsieh from Taipei, Taiwan, defeated 21 year old 5th seeded #66 (career high: #54) Petra Martic from Split, Croatia, 2-6, 7-5, 4-1 retired (Su-Wei is shown with the trophy after the match).

Petra had played a very long match earlier on Sunday, defeating 2nd seeded #14 Jelena Jankovic in a rain-postponed semifinal which lasted over three hours, 6(5)-7, 7-5, 7-6(5).

    Su-Wei's prize is $37,000; Petra's prize is $19,000.

Su-Wei said: "In a way I was lucky, but I'll cherish this for as long as I can remember. I never expected to win this title. It wasn't easy for me but I tried so hard to win." WTA story

Su-Wei was playing in her first WTA singles final. She has won 20 ITF singles titles, 8 WTA doubles titles and 19 ITF doubles titles. Su-Wei now has a 13-2 singles match record in 2012, the best start of her career. Getting To Know... Hsieh Su-Wei

Petra was also playing in her first WTA singles final. She has won 2 ITF singles titles and 3 ITF doubles titles. Petra has a 8-5 singles match record for the year.

On Saturday in Acapulco, in the final of the Abierto Mexicano, the 2008 Palermo champion, 24 year old 3rd seeded #36 (career high: #31) Sara Errani from Bologna, Italy.
defeated her compatriot, the 2005 and 2008 Acapulco champion, 30 year old 2nd seeded #28 (career high: #10) Flavia Pennetta of Italy (residence: Verbier, Switzerland), 5-7, 7-6(2), 6-0 (Sara is also shown holding the hardware after the match).

    Sara's prize is $37,000; Flavia's prize is $19,000.

Sara said: "It was such a tough final against Flavia. I had to run a lot and try to play my game and be aggressive in the important moments. It's never easy playing an Italian but I played really well, especially in the third set.
"I can take a lot of confidence from this going into Indian Wells, but I always want more." WTA story

Flavia said: "We both played well tonight, but Sara played really well in the important moments. I made a lot of mistakes in the tie-break and in the third set I was tired physically and it went really fast."

Sara is now 3-3 in WTA singles finals. She won her other two titles at Palermo and Portoroz, both in 2008. She reached the Pattaya City final last year. Sara has a 16-5 singles match record this season.

Flavia is now 9-13 in WTA singles finals. Flavia has a 32-6 career record in Acapluco. She won the tourney in 2005 and 2008, and also reached the final in 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2009. Flavia is 10-5 in singles matches this year.

Flavia still leads Sara 3-2 in career matches. Their previous meeting was in 2010 on red clay in the semifinals at Marbella, when Flavia defeated Sara 6-1, 6-1.
