#92 Yanina Wickmayer
6'0" 150lb RH 2H-BH
Quebec City:

#62 Annika Beck
5'7" 130lb RH 2H-BH

On Sunday at Tokyo, Japan, in the final of the Japan Women's Open, the 2010 Auckland champ, 25 year old #92 (career high: #12) Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium (residence: Monte Carlo, Monaco), defeated 23 year old #91 (career high #101) Magda Linette of Poland, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 (photo shown).

    Yanina's prize is $43,000; Magda's prize is $21,400.

Yanina said: "The first set wasn't great for me. I was making too many unforced errors and going for too much. I think I was trying to play too nicely, too pretty. Winning doesn't always have to be pretty. And I also really wanted to win today, so maybe I was a little bit nervous there in the beginning... From the second set I was trying to rally and make her play, make her win the points." WTA story

Magda and Yanina had never before met on the field of combat (pro singles).

Yanina is now 4-6 in WTA singles finals. Her singles match record in 2015 is 22-20. Magda was playing in her first WTA singles final (she has won 10 ITF singles titles); Magda has a 40-20 singles match record this season.

On Sunday at at Quebec City, Canada, in the final of the Coupe Banque Nationale, the 2015 finalist at Florianopolis (and 2014 champion at Luxembourg), 21 year old 5th seeded #62 (career high: #43) Annika Beck from Giessen, Germany, defeated 18 year old #114 (career high: #101) Jelena Ostapenko from Riga, Latvia, 6-2, 6-2 (photo shown).

Annika's prize is $43,000; Jelena's prize is $21,400. Jelena still leads Annika 2-1 in career matches. Their previous meeting was earlier this year on a Deco-Turf hardcourt in the 1st round of the US Open, when Jelena defeated Annika 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.

Annika is now 2-2 in WTA singles finals. Her singles match record in 2015 is 22-24. Jelena was playing in her first WTA singles final (she has won 7 ITF singles titles); Jelena has a 41-16 singles match record this season.
