Bogota:

#162 Teliana Pereira
5' 6" 137lb RH 2H-BH

On Sunday at Bogota, in the final of the Claro Open Colsanitas, 26 year old #162 (career high: #130) Teliana Pereira from Curitiba, Brazil, won her first WTA singles final by defeating the 2007 champion at Bangalore, India (and a 2012 & 2010 Roland Garros quarterfinalist), 27 year old 5th seeded #78 (career high: #29) Yaroslava Shvedova from Astana, Kazakhstan, 7-6(2), 6-1 (Yaroslava is shown during her semifinal win; Teliana is shown holding the hardware after the final).

    Teliana's prize is $43,000; Yaroslava's prize is $21,400.

Teliana is the first Brazilian to reach and win a WTA tournament final since Neige Dias reached (and won) the Barcelona final in April, 1988.

Teliana said: "This has been the best week of my life. When I was training, I always dreamt of winning a WTA championship, and now I've done it.

"Playing the [ITF] Medellín challenger before this was very important to me because there was a little altitude there, too, and that helped me get ready for the conditions here. I think I played very well all week.

"I felt very solid all week and I'm so happy to win my first WTA title here in Bogota." WTA story

Teliana and Yaroslava had never before met on the field of combat (pro singles).

Elina after match point

Elina said: "It was a long day for me. We were in and out all the time because of the rain. I had to warm up a couple of times, stretching three times, warming up, running four or five times - and the conditions are already tough, so that made it even more difficult to play my best today.
"When we came back on court at 1-2 in the second set I was really struggling with my serve. Then I switched my racquet and served better, because the strings got loose because of the rain. That was my mistake. I'm happy I could serve better after that, especially when I was losing 3-5 and made it 5-all. It brought me a lot of confidence I could hold there, and I showed my best tennis at the end.
"I'm really happy to get this good win today and not have to finish the match tomorrow!" WTA story
